Southern California Blues Society: About Us

Promoting Blues for over 25 Years

Established in 1982, the Southern California Blues Society is a 501 (c )(3) non-profit, all volunteer, public benefit organization, organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes. That purpose being to preserve, promote and advance the culture of the American Blues music tradition for the benefit and education of our members and the general public in Southern California.

Our organization has a rich history of bringing the blues to the Southern California community and we plan to continue this tradition.  Eighteen months ago we realized that many of you thought we were gone, so we’ve regrouped to focus our energies and streamline our strategies. Our first goal was to bring shows and events that promote the hidden talents that are right here in our own backyard and don't get nearly the recognition they deserve.    We plan to bring these artists, and those like them, to our SoCal Blues Fans via intimate venues that are easily accessible and promote good times. Check out our SCBS Events page to see who has performed for us so far this year.

We also support local unsigned talent and its rich patchwork of blues interpretation.  Our biggest support of this talent pool is in our continued participation of the IBC. Future plans include other events that spotlight our Southern California blues talent.

Our focus and commitment to assistance and youth education remain strong as well.  We will continue to evolve these programs as we move ahead.  We still have work to do, and appreciate your acknowledgement of our commitment by your positive comments on our most recent efforts.

Artist Assistance

Artist assistance has been an important program for the Southern California Blues Society since its year of inception, so we hold these efforts very dear to our heart.

There have been many Blues artists over the years that have turned to us for assistance and we feel honored to have been in a position to offer help.

Currently, our Board is researching ways to revitalize our program so that we can once again offer a helping hand.  For now please visit http://www.blues.org/#ref=hart_resources for a list of organizations that may be able to help.

Blues in the Schools & The Willie Dixon Scholarship Fund

These two SCBS programs were designed with youth in mind - our next generation of Blues fans that will carry the torch for us into the future.

The Blues in the Schools program introduces elementary and secondary school children to the origin and history of the blues and helps them develop an appreciation of different blues musical styles and the influence of this music in American culture.

The Willie Dixon Scholarship Fund was named in honor of one of the giants of the blues, in the past SCBS has awarded scholarships to deserving undergraduate or graduate students based on their area of studies, scholastic achievement and financial need.

It is our goal to revamp these programs and are seeking volunteers. Anyone interested in getting involved is asked to e-mail us
