The 2013 International Blues Challenge (IBC) will be the 29th year of Blues musicians from around the world competing for cash, prizes, and industry recognition. The Blues Foundation will present the 29th International Blues Challenge January 29-February 2, 2013 in Memphis, TN. The world's largest gathering of Blues acts represents an international search by The Blues Foundation and its Affiliated Organizations for the Blues Band and Solo/Duo Blues Act ready to take their act to the international stage. With the mission to find the best unsigned blues band, this annual competition is held on a regional level by The Blues Foundation's affiliated organizations around the world.

The Southern California Blues Society has been an affiliate member of The Blues Foundation since 1999 and first sponsored our own regional competition in 2003. Like the national competition, the SCBS Regional IBC is a judged "Battle of the Bands" in which competitors take the stage and play a short set for a panel of judges. The acts will be judged based on The Blues Foundation's established set of criteria.

The SCBS held a regional competition this year and the winner, Sista Jean's Blues Machine will be entered as a semi-finalist to the IBC to compete in the national finals. SCBS provided a check to the winning act in order to help defer the cost of travel to Memphis. In addition, the SCBS Regional winner will be given the opportunity to participate in the Southern California Blues Society's 30th Annual Topanga Festival normally held each year on the first Sunday of May.
